Firm History

O'Neills Business Lawyers was established in 1998 by its sole principal Mr Kerry O'Neill who has more than 30 years legal experience in many areas of the law.

Kerry had previously been the senior partner in a south-side suburban practice for 17 years and felt there was a strong need to provide a more personalised and cost-effective service to meet the legal needs of all clients.

Kerry O'Neill

The Principal and founder of O'Neills Business Lawyers, Kerry is a career professional with more than 30 years experience in practice.

Kerry was admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1979, and then to the High Court of Australia in 1983. He is also a member of the Law Council of Australia.

Kerry established O'Neills in 1998 with a vision to provide a personalised and cost-effective service, specialising in small to medium-sized business and estate planning. Kerry primarily practices in the commercial and estate law areas.

Nigel Collins

Nigel Collins

Nigel has broad practice experience, with a focus on commercial and civil litigation, and family, criminal and employment law. His career includes:

  • a Bachelor of Arts in Law degree
  • admission as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 1985
  • admission to the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court in 2001
  • extensive experience in commercial and civil litigation
  • many years of experience in the debt recovery and insolvency areas of company windups and personal bankruptcies
  • advocacy work in various jurisdictions in the UK and Australia.
Sheryn Cherry

Sheryn Cherry

Sheryn is our longest-serving staff member, joining the firm in 2001. She has 20 years experience in law and plays a vital role in our office, including:

  • providing paralegal and word processing expertise
  • acting as a Commissioner for Declarations
  • being responsible for cottage conveyancing and assisting with commercial conveyancing
  • keeping the books balanced and supporting our administration team.

Sheryn's hours are Monday to Thursday from 9.00am to 3.00pm.

Wendy Tyquin

Wendy Tyquin

Wendy works in our administration area and has over 25 years experience in legal offices. She is in the office every Wednesday to Friday from 9.00am to 5.00pm and her role includes:

  • providing paralegal and word processing expertise
  • acting as a Commissioner for Declarations
  • assisting with estates and conveyancing projects.
Emma Henry

Emma Henry

Emma is our full-time receptionist and administrative officer, and also undertakes WP support on Mondays. Emma has four years experience in general office and over two years in legal administrative duties.

At O'Neills, we recognise the importance of first impressions: as our welcoming "face of the firm", Emma sets the scene for professional and friendly support at all times.

Sandy Norton

Sandy Norton

Sandy works in our administrative area on a part-time basis, working every Tuesday from 9.00am to 5.00pm. She has more than 12 years experience in legal administration work in Queensland, Western Australia and Tasmania.
